NBA: Jayson Tatum signs a new contract with the Celtics for $315 million

The Boston Celtics have rewarded their star player, Jayson Tatum, who played a major role in leading them to their 18th NBA title this season, by signing him to a new five-year contract worth $315 million, according to reports.

If the information from T&T and ESPN is correct, it will be the largest contract in the history of the league, under which Tatum will receive $63 million annually.

Tatum, who helped lead the American team to gold at the Tokyo Olympics in the summer of 2021 and will try to repeat the feat at the Paris Olympics this summer, played a major role in leading the Celtics to the league title this season, averaging 26.9 points to go along with 8.1 rebounds and 4.9 assists.

The move comes just days after the Celtics agreed to terms with their other big star, Jaylen Brown, on a new five-year, $268.2 million contract.

Derrick White also agreed to a new four-year contract worth $125.9 million, similar to Jrue Holiday, who will earn $135 million over the next four years.

The legendary Green Team also guaranteed the survival of Latvian star Kristaps Porzingis, who opted to play out the final year of his current $36 million contract before the new deal, which extends him for two more years at $60 million, kicks in.

The Celtics may play next season under the supervision of new owners after putting it up for sale, according to the statement issued on Monday, which said: "The family that controls the ownership group has decided, after numerous internal discussions, to sell the team for reasons related to asset management and family planning."

Forbes magazine valued the club at $4.7 billion last October, an increase of 18 percent, which is the fourth-highest valuation in the league after the Golden State Warriors ($7.7 billion), the New York Knicks ($6.6 billion) and the Los Angeles Lakers ($6.6 billion). 6.4).

Businessman Wick Groesbeck leads the group that acquired ownership of the Celtics for $360 million in 2002 and hopes to remain the franchise's representative in the NBA until 2028, the planned year for the family's complete exit from ownership.

The statement continued, "The group's board of directors hopes to sell the majority of the shares in 2024 or early 2025, with all shares relinquished in 2028."

After it was reported that Paul George, whose career with the Los Angeles Clippers ended and he became a free agent, would join Joel Embiid with the Philadelphia 76ers, it was said on Monday that Klay Thompson would join the Dallas Mavericks, last season's runners-up, after he decided to part ways with the Golden State Warriors, leaving the team that brought him into the league in 2011 and gave him titles in 2015, 2017, 2018 and 2022.

Since teams cannot announce new contracts before the sixth of this month, the media has been active in unofficially determining the destination of players, with talk of James Harden reaching an agreement worth $ 70 million to stay for two additional years with the Clippers.
