Restoration of the wooden structure of the choir dome in Notre-Dame de Paris Cathedral has been completed.


 On Friday, a symbolic bouquet of flowers and leaves was placed at the top of the wooden structure of the dome of the choir section in the Notre-Dame de Paris Cathedral, marking the end of this phase of its restoration project, less than a year before the reopening of this famous Parisian landmark that was ravaged by a fire on April 15. The head of the public institution responsible for the reconstruction project, Philippe Joost, described the position of the branch as a “small step, but it has many implications.”

As for the technical director of the “Peru” company, which was responsible for the completion of the wooden structure of the dome, Jean-Louis Bede, said to the work team during the celebration of this tradition, which constitutes the culmination of the end of the workshop, “We put aside a branch from the most beautiful tree, and fixed it” at the top of the dome, as it “protects” the building.

While the youngest workers installed the bouquet as required by tradition, one of the carpenters commented jokingly, saying, “It looks like a hand-over between ministers,” at a time when a number of them were already assuming their positions on Friday in the new French government. The new Minister of Culture, Rachida Dati, said upon assuming her duties earlier the same day that the reopening of the cathedral, scheduled for next December 8, is among her priorities.

At this stage, the installation of the two domes of the cathedral's nave and choir, which were restored according to the old design dating back to the Middle Ages, was completed.
