Brazil's Supreme Court Unblocks Starlink, X Accounts After $3.3 Million Transfer

Brazilian Supreme Court Judge Alexandre de Moraes on Friday ordered the lifting of a previous freeze on the accounts of US billionaire Elon Musk's Starlink and X companies, after ordering the transfer of 18.35 million Brazilian reals ($3.3 million) from the accounts to the state treasury.

According to a statement from the court, the order to lift the block was issued because the amount transferred covers the total fines owed by X, which were imposed after a confrontation between Musk and Moraes.

The Brazilian judge had ordered X to be blocked in Brazil, the platform's sixth-largest market in the world, after it refused to suspend accounts accused of spreading "misleading information" that it considered a threat to democracy.

Elon Musk had refused to comply with the Brazilian Supreme Court's order, calling it "censorship". He also refused to appoint a legal representative for his X platform, as required by Brazilian law, prompting Moraes to order the freezing of Starlink's bank accounts in Brazil to ensure payment of the fine.

It is not yet clear whether X will be able to resume operations in Brazil after the court collects the fine.
