Red Bull's Dutch driver Max Verstappen won the Brazilian Grand Prix on Sunday after a rain-soaked race that saw him start from 17th, see yellow and red flags and be involved in several incidents at the Interlagos circuit in the 21st round of the Formula One World Championship.
Verstappen, world champion for the past three years and leader of the standings, finished ahead of French Alpine drivers Esteban Ocon and Pierre Gasly. McLaren's British driver Lando Norris, the Dutchman's runner-up, had to settle for sixth.
Verstappen, who clocked 2:06:54.430 and benefited from a red flag and a free pit stop, also ended a run of almost four months without a win and extended his lead over Norris to 62 points (392 to 331) with three races remaining.
Verstappen's last win prior to this race was at the Spanish Grand Prix on 23 June, having won the sprint race at the US Grand Prix two weeks earlier. Las Vegas, which hosts the next round, will be Verstappen's first chance to retain his title for a fourth consecutive year, as he could be crowned on the streets of the famous city on 23 November.
